How we check facts
23 VPNs, 306 linked sources, last checked 16 October 2026.
Where facts come from
Prices, plans, apps and policies come from each provider's own website: pricing and checkout pages, help centres, terms, and audit announcements. Ownership comes from company pages and public records. Audits link to the auditor's report or the provider's announcement of it.
Each fact is tied to the provider's own page that states it. The consequential and unusual claims are checked against that page by hand, and anything that doesn't hold up is corrected or removed. Some older details (encryption, support channels, payment methods) come from a third-party comparison sheet from about 2025, and are labelled that way wherever they appear.
Unknown means unknown
When a provider doesn't say, we write "Not stated". That's different from "No". Filters never count an unknown as a match, and a missing renewal price is never filled in with a guess.
How prices are compared
- The cheapest plan is the longest advertised plan, shown per month and as the total you pay upfront.
- The renewal price is what the provider says you'll pay when that first term ends.
- The three-year cost adds renewals at the stated price until month 36. Providers without a stated renewal price aren't ranked.
- Prices in different currencies are never sorted against each other.
- Prices change often and differ by country and tax. Always check the checkout page.
What we don't do
- No scores, stars or "editor's rating". Guides explain their picks instead.
- No speed tests. We haven't measured speeds, so we don't publish any.
- No affiliate links or sponsored placements. Nobody pays to be listed or ordered.
- No "streaming works" claims of our own. Streaming and China support are shown as the provider's claim.
